MÄNNER-MINNE – Gay Men’s Choir of Berlin
Athens Pride 2012 is delighted to host MÄNNER-MINNE, Berlin’s first gay men’s choir, in a special performance on Friday, 8 June 2012 at 20.00 in Kapnikareas Square. The choir will also open the Athens Pride Parade at 17.00 on Saturday 9 June in Klafthmonos Square.
MÄNNER-MINNE was founded in 1987 and has more than 30 singers. Known for its colorful musical and choreographic diversity, it has participated in almost every European Lesbian & Gay choir festival and many in the United States.
In 2005 Holger Perschke took over as musical director. He has been a guiding force in the creation of many productions including “Im Zauberwald” (In the Enchanted Forest), a radical reinterpretation of the world of traditional fairytales. Their most recent performance was dedicated to the gay Berliner, Bruno Balz, a prolific pop lyricist from the period 1930-1960. MÄNNER-MINNE currently is preparing for its 25th anniversary celebrations.

In the meantime, let us introduce Greece, Athens and Athens Pride:
Athens Pride
Athens Pride started as as small grassroots initiative gathering a few hundred activists in 2005 and quickly grew to become one of the most popular and most significant all day events of the city. With a parade attracting over 12,000 people in 2012, it is the largest pride event in SE Europe. Regardless of this growth and success, Athens Pride retains it's grassroots, all volunteer, non-profit character.
Athens Pride is unlike any other in many ways. One example: For the past 3 years an auction named "Artists for Athens Pride" has provided most of the funding for Athens Pride, enabling it to produce free public cultural and political events that are enjoyed by thousands. This extraordinary display of sensitivity and conscience on the part of artists in Greece and abroad has made Athens Pride unique, as the only Pride in the world to be primarily supported by the visual arts community!
